The President of the Uganda Law Society, Mr. Isaac Ssemakadde, SC, met with the Chief Justice of Uganda, Alfonse Owiny-Dollo, today, November 1st, 2024.
By this meeting, he challenged his critics, who argue that he is personally at loggerheads with the Judiciary and, as such, will find it difficult, if not impossible, to meaningfully lead the Law Society as a key player in the Justice, Law and Order Sector (JLOS).
The critics, most of whom vented their criticisms on social media platform X, tried to create the perception that the law society President is harbouring some personal issue with the Judiciary and its members and that thatโs why he had failed to attend the launch of the Judiciaryโs Annual Performance event last month.
Well, it is true that Isaac Ssemakadde, as a leader of the law society, has issues with the Justice system in our country, including the administration of Justice under the docket of the Judiciary.ย
This was apparent in his campaign for the position, but the issues are not personal, as the critics have tried to suggest.
The meeting held at the Chief Justice’s official residence, according to the Judiciary, was intended to discuss matters related to the administration of Justice.ย
โ The Judiciary is open to anyone elected as President of the Uganda Law Society. We do not discriminate, we welcome all feedback and criticismโ the Chief Justice is quoted as saying by the Uganda Law Society.
